Obituaries

An obituary, is simply the printed notice of the death of an individual. It is customary in many cultures to include a somewhat brief but informative account of the life of the deceased person. This historical life sketch can be a very useful source in the study of genealogy.
The person's parent's names, spouse's name, sibling's names as well as those of children and grandchildren are often listed. Where in the world the person previously lived and worked is also usually mentioned and this alone can provide new leads in the search for one's family.

Obituaries well written can be taken as a valuable data in the search process of family history and genealogy. It depicts the birth date and the date of death along with marriage, family, historical value and social status of a person, which augment the study of genealogy.
